Alice Marie Stevens, 91, passed away December 14, 2019 at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness where she had just recently moved.
Born January 9, 1928 on a homestead in Lucerne, Wyoming, she was one of six children of John and Blanch (Brown) Hammett. The family moved to Montana where Alice attended country schools until entering high school in Billings where she met her future husband. The school needed a cook so Alice dropped out of school to take on the cooking job. The school later became Rocky Mountain College.
On September 20, 1945 she married Alfred “Al” Stevens in Billings, Montana. To this union six children were born. The couple, with their growing family, moved to Wyoming in 1959 and then to Thermopolis in 1976.
After raising her family, Alice worked at the Big T Drive-In, Owl Lumber, Canyon Hills Manor and Coast to Coast. Her favorite past-time was bowling.
Those cherishing Alice’s memory are her sons, Alfred, Jr (Denise) of Bethlehem, PA, Lance of Denver, Michael (Latrell) of Thermopolis, Bruce (Nancy) of Spearfish, SD, and Rudy (Joann) of Rock Springs; daughter, Valli Cotter of Denver; siblings, Roberta Williams of Kalispell, MT and Lee Hammett of Sheridan, WY; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
