The loving family of Sallie Easley Wesaw, 84, of Thermopolis, WY reports that she peacefully passed away in her sleep at home Tuesday May 28, 2019 from cancer of the kidney.
Sallie was born December 19, 1934 in Blacksburg, VA, where she lived with her family through high school. She attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree and later received her Master’s Degree in Art History at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID where she lived with her husband and three children. She moved to Ft Washakie, WY in 1972 with her second husband and raised her fourth child. A few years later, Riverton, WY became Sallie’s home where she taught art for more than 25 years at Central Wyoming College.
Sallie possessed a great love of creating art, swimming and traveling. She was a prolific artist generating jewelry, fiber arts, oil, watercolor, clay and even glass. She showed her work at many exhibits throughout Wyoming, and recently opened her art studio and gallery in Thermopolis where she enjoyed art strolls and gathering with friends. She participated in the Senior Olympics, particularly in swimming events, but also threw javelin and shot put. She attended these events in WY, CO, UT, and even KY earning many medals. She met JW Bailey in southern California 17 years ago, with whom she enjoyed companionship and travel.
Proceeded in death by her older brother and sister, she leaves behind her companion JW Bailey, sons S Thompson, L Thompson and daughters M Thompson and S Wesaw-Sloan, nine grandchildren as well as a large circle of loving friends.
A Celebration of Life memorial ceremony and open house will be held Saturday June 15th from 2 to 5 PM at Sallie’s art gallery, The Blue Bison, 515 Arapahoe St, Thermopolis, WY. Please stop by.
