Betty Norine (Rickman) Kertson

Betty Norine Kertson, 92, of Thermopolis, Wyoming, passed away on May 28, 2020, at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since May of 2019. 

She was born on December 17, 1927, in Aurora, Missouri to Max Albert Rickman and Laura Ethel (Anderson) Rickman.  She graduated from McPherson Kansas High School in 1945.  On May 1, 1948, she married Karl Victor Kertson in Worland, Wyoming.  Of that marriage four children were born, Scott, Rick, Karla and Della.  The family settled in Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1956.

Betty was a homemaker for the majority of her life, but also worked a variety of jobs, including telephone operator and sales clerk.  She was employed at Duckwalls Five & Ten in McPherson, Kansas; Bell Telephone Company in Casper and Worland, Wyoming; and at JC Penney in Thermopolis, Wyoming, until she retired in 1987. 

A member of Federated Community Church, she enjoyed bowling, tatting, working word and jigsaw puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Rick (Jolene) Kertson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Karla (Victor) Ohrmund of Thermopolis, Della (Robert) Smith of North Ogden, Utah; daughter in law, Lynnette Kertson, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and a large extended family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters and one brother; her husband, Karl Victor Kertson, in 2012; her son, Scott Victor Kertson in 2012; a foster daughter and foster son, and one grandchild. 

Graveside services officiated by Pastor Ross Kershaw will be held on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
