Cathy Roberts Obituary

Cathy Marie (Bray) Roberts age 60 of Thermopolis, Wyoming was led home by our Lord Jesus Christ on January 7th, 2023. Cathy left her earthly vessel while being cared for by the amazing staff at Help for Health Hospice in Riverton Wyoming.

Cathy was born on October 17, 1962, to the late William (Cat) and Thelma (Dollie) Bray in Thermopolis, Wyoming. As a child, she was raised outside of town where she enjoyed country living and riding horses. Her family was a large one with a wide range of ages between Cathy’s siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. They shared many family outings together camping and fishing. Cathy attended Hot Springs County K-12 schools and graduated with the Class of 1981. She was always surrounded by her many lifelong friends. During high school, she was known for having a camera around her neck, taking everybody's pictures, but never letting anyone take hers: both traits followed her into adulthood. In high school, the nickname Freebie Fray was bestowed on her. After high school, her nickname received an additional title “The Brat”: both stuck with her and were derived from her fun-loving ornery attitude. Cathy even had “Brat” airbrushed above the door handle of her beloved 1981 Camaro.

Cathy married Eddie Roberts in 1988 and in 1990, their son RJ blessed their union. RJ quickly changed her whole world; he was her everything. Cathy couldn't wait for RJ to marry and have children. RJ and his wife Kaitlyn fulfilled her dream last year with the arrival of her granddaughter, Charleigh Marie. Cathy’s bucket list included seeing how many concerts she could attend; how many years in a row she could make it to Sturgis; and how many unique antiques she could collect. She was amazing with a pool cue and competed in several tournaments outside of Wyoming. In town, she was known as one of the best players on the table. She was just as talented with a deck of cards and a cribbage board. When Cathy wasn't snowmobiling, camping or fishing, she loved spending her free time out in the countryside searching for sheds and arrowheads. She loved life, being outdoors, her friends, and worshiping God. Cathy had a full life and was loved by all. Her signature move would be to flip you off and call you “jerk”. That’s how you knew she really loved you. Cathy was quick with a joke and her laugh would brighten anybody's day.

Cathy’s battle with Huntington's lasted almost a decade. During this heroic journey, her friend Kathleen became her earthly angel, making sure she was never alone and had everything that was needed. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Dick Bruce, Earl Rutherford, Delores Laceby, and Joann Johnson. Cathy is survived by her son RJ (Kaitlyn) Roberts, granddaughter Charleigh Marie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Please join us for her memorial service to be held at Agape Church at 245 Hwy 120 West in Thermopolis, February 3, 2023 at 3 p.m. Immediately following her service, a celebration of life with good food, friends, and family, along with fun stories will be held.
