We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Mortimore Funeral Home
Early Tuesday morning, November 23rd, 2021, Daniel Lee Herdt succumbed to congestive heart failure. He passed with his wife by his side in his home in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Dan was born August 20th, 1956, to Wilbert and Shirley Herdt of Torrington, Wyoming. He was oldest of four children and enjoyed playing football, baseball, and basketball in his youth. He graduated from Torrington High School in 1974. He attended college at Eastern Wyoming College, the University of Wyoming, and Casper College. He married his high school sweetheart, Penny Reader, in 1976 in Torrington, Wyoming, and began his career with Amoco Pipeline Company in 1977. Dan’s career in the oil industry took the Herdt family to multiple different locations across the country, but Wyoming continued to be where Penny & Dan considered home.
Dan was an active member of the Thermopolis community, participating in Men’s League golf, Rotary, serving on the Thermopolis Improvement Committee, the Golf Board, and Hospital Board. Upon Dan’s retirement from the oil & gas industry in 2007, he and his daughter Jessica opened Owl Creek Graphics in downtown Thermopolis where he worked until his passing.
Dan is survived by his mother Shirley McCandlish, his wife Penny Herdt, son Andy (Barb) Shull, daughter Jessica (Gary) Benefiel and three granddaughters Ella, Atley & Laina Benefiel, brothers Jeff (Linda) Herdt and Tom (Mary Jane) Herdt, and sister Jody (Rick) Shields. He was preceded in death by his father Wilbert Herdt, and his son Alex Herdt.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4th, at the Community Church in Thermopolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospital Foundation, the HSC Education Endowment Foundation, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
