Dennis Holtzer Obituary

Meeteetse resident, Dennis Edwin Holtzer, 79, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, at Hot Springs Health in Thermopolis, Wyoming after a short illness.  Born in Greensburg, PA he was one of four children of John and Dorothy Kauffman Holtzer.

He graduated from Hempfield High School in 1961 and immediately enlisted in the Air Force, much to the consternation of his mother.  He happily served for 20 years, with his favorite postings being Ayr Scotland, and Anchorage Alaska.  After a remote tour in Cold Bay Alaska he requested a posting near home in Pennsylvania.  He was sent to Malmstrom in Montana.  That is where he and Kathleen met, when she and a friend who had gone to the Spokane World’s Fair stopped at Malmstrom so the friend could visit with her son who was also stationed there.  Talk about fate!  He and Kathleen got married in 1975 in Great Falls where they resided until his retirement in 1981.

After moving to Meeteetse, WY in 1981, Dennis worked at the school and then went to work for the State of Wyoming.  He loved that job, all the snow he got to plow!  After his retirement he of course continued plowing but on his own place instead of the state highways!  In the summer he put the mower on the tractor and proceeded to mow everything he could find, and in between mowing, he and good friend and fishing buddy, Chuck, hit the lakes.  The Upper Reservoir was his favorite, the best fish came from there!  When the weather wasn’t cooperating with an excuse to get on his tractor or go fishing he got on his computer and treated it the same way as his tractor, anything and everything he could do on the computer he did!  That turns out to be a big problem for his wife as she isn’t the computer geek he was.

Dennis is survived by his wife of the family home, his daughter Kathryn of Michigan, son David of Scotland, sister Linda of Virginia and brother Ron of PA, three grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Johnny and son Jeffrey.

Services will be held at the Meeteetse Community Church,  October 21, at 2 pm, with Military honors being provided by the Legion Post.
