Born October 6, 1931 in Thermopolis, Wyoming, he was the son of Durward and Dorothy (French) Jones. Following high school he attended the University of Wyoming graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. During the Korean War he served in the US Army.
On January 11, 1957, he married Caroline Denny Roberts in Thermopolis. During the last 60’s he managed two Montana ranches prior to returning to the home ranch that he and Caroline purchased. On the home ranch, he spread water to all corners of the Copper Mountain ranch through pipelines which were the first pipelines on the mountain.
He was a lifelong member of the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association where he served as Vice President for 2 years. Denny also was a member VFW Post 2281 and Wyoming Woolgrowers. For 21 years he served on the First National Bank Board and 10 years on the Hot Springs County Planning Commission.
Denny was aware of all his surroundings, taking pride in knowing all the birds, plants and was glad to teach all who would listen. He used to say, “The world was supported by all the living organisms in the first six inches of the soil”. He was a good environmentalist, but he despised sagebrush, but you all know that!
Survivors include his children, Brian (Lisa) and Brett Jones and Ellen (Jack) Baird of Thermopolis; grandchildren, Monica Jones, Nathan Thomas, Randy Jones, Kaylee (Sam) Langager and Shawn Smith and great grandchildren, Cato, Bryson and Maci Langager and Katie Wilber. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Durward “Bud”, wife, Caroline of 60 years and grandsons, Doug and Ray Jones.
A Celebration of Denny’s life will be held Friday, June 5, 4:30 PM at the Branding Trap, 631 Buffalo Creek Road, Thermopolis, with Pastor Harvey Seidel officiating.
