Helen M. Thamm, 73, was born in Chicago, IL, June 16, 1949, the daughter of Robert Louis and Helen (Clark) Thamm. On August 25, 2022 she went peacefully to be with her God.
She was raised and educated in her hometown Chicago earning a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. When she moved to Thermopolis in 2005, she referenced her new residence as
"her beautiful Thermopolis”.
Helen served in several nursing roles including direct patient care in hospitals where she loved helping people grow through a variety of mental health challenges, as well as in several nursing leadership roles. Upon moving to Thermopolis she worked as a therapist/nurse at the local mental Health Counseling Center until she briefly retired in 2019 at age 70. Missing her clients, she returned to work part time until November of 2020 when she was forced to retire due to a chronic lung problem.
She is survived by her brother, Bob of Cicero, IL, three foster brothers, three foster sisters, two godsons, church friends from her prayer group in Chicago as well as local supportive neighborhood friends who Helen referred to as angels, saints, and her adopted neighborhood.
She loved playing with her fur babies (cats), reading, solving word search puzzles, and playing board games with friends. Helen was an active member of the Hot Springs Christian Church serving as the "cards and flower lady". She was especially fond of the Thermopolis red hills and beautiful buffalo in the State Park. Helen cherished the vulnerable children and animals.
She would especially like to thank our Senior Center for the nutritious meals and friendly volunteers who helped her deal with the long term health challenges, also the caring and dedicated hospital staff who took loving care of her.
