Jack C Sheldon

Jack C. Sheldon, 72, passed away suddenly March 19, 2019  in Arizona City, Arizona.

Born July 5, 1945 in Riverton, Wyoming, he was the 12th of 13 children of Horace and Harriet (Jones) Sheldon.  Following high school he enlisted in the Navy where he learned the art of making power, being trained in the engine room.  That training and knowledge served him well as he went on to spend the next 40 years in hydro-electric power plants in many various roles.  He was proud of being part of the start-up commissioning team in Prudhoe Bay Alaska when the Trans-Alaska Pipeline was first starting to pump.  As part of his last job with the Army Corps of Engineers, he was sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to be part of the restructuring of their power systems.. 

You can be a cowboy, or you can be an oilman yet Jack chose to be both.  He rode saddle bronc horses until he was 42 and he loved team roping which he was still actively pursuing.  He enjoyed playing his guitars and joked that you couldn’t have too many!  His passion for riding his motorcycle was just as strong as his love for horses and many times couldn’t decide which one was going to win the day.

His greatest gift was the fact that he never met a stranger, every person he met he made them feel they were special.  He had a way of connecting with everyone on their level that they never forgot.  He genuinely liked people and it showed in the way he loved and respected them.  He will leave a void that will not be replaced in many lives.  He could bless without making you feel insulted as shown with this story:  A young guitar player came to play at church one night with holes in his cowboy boots and duct tape holding them together.  Another cowboy attending had just bought a new pair of boots and this man said to the youngster, “What size are your cowboy boots?  Well, that’s the same size that I wear.  These new boots are hurting my feet.  Would you like to try these on and see if they fit you?”  the young man said yes and the couboy slipped on the youngsters boots and said, “Oh, these are so comfortable!  Would you mind trading me?”  The young man agreed and his life was forever changed.  The cowboy was Jack Sheldon and the youngster was Kerry Herrick of the bank “Herrick”.

He married the love of his life, Pamela Jean Melton, December 31, 1995 in Grand Junction, Colorado.  They were inseparable and their life was filled with laughter, joy and devotion.

Those cherishing his memory include his wife, Pam, of Thermopolis; sons, Jess (Abigail), Arizona City, AZ, and Peter (Jessica), Aloha, OR; daughters, Chanel Sheldon, Arizona City, AZ and Stephanie (Darin) Dow, Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Buzz, Caldwell, ID, Bill, Temecula, CA, and Skeet, Riverton, WY; sisters, Shirley Fulmer, Lahania, HI,Sharon Widick, Gunnison, UT and Adele Belle, Peoria, AZ; eleven grandchildren, one great, grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and his commitment to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took precedence over everything.  He loved everyone that came in his path with the unselfish love of the Father and he always said, “The greatest messages are lived, not preached.”  That was the true essence of Jack Sheldon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1, 10:30 AM  at First Baptist Church in Thermopolis with Pastor Harvey Seidel officiating.  Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis.
