John Henry Hausauer, 87, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020, at H.S. Co. Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis after a period of declining health.
Born February 1, 1932 in Dunn County, North Dakota, he was one of six children of Jack and Millie (Sommers) Hausauer. Following high school he joined the Navy serving on the USS Baltimore from 1952 – 1956.
On November 28, 1959 he married Gale Cross in Billings, Montana. To this union was born three children. When the couple moved to Thermopolis John and Gale operated the Plaza Hotel for several years. John also owned a barber shop. For 30 years he served as a VFW Service Officer.
He was a member of Community Federated Church and the VFW where he served as Commander for a time and was their bartender for several years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Graveside services were held at Riverside Cemetery and memorial services were held Wednesday, January 8, 2:00 PM at the Thermopolis VFW.
Survivors include his sons, Troy of Douglas, WY and Tyron (Tiffany) of Westminister, CO; one grandchild, Hannah; brothers Ed and Don Hausauer; sisters, Helen Swensen and Alice Geotz and John’s companion, Lorraine Remsing. He was preceded in death by daughter, Jodie Lynn Hausauer and sister, Ruby Benz.
