Joyce Marie (Pitt) Fletcher
May 21, 1941 ~ October 10, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Joyce Marie Pitt Fletcher passed away on October 10th at Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Born on May 21, 1941, in Thermopolis, Wyoming, Joyce was the first of Theodore and Marie Pitt’s two children. She graduated from Hot Springs County High in 1959, then went on to Beauty School in Casper. Following graduation, she worked as a beautician in DuBois and later in Thermopolis. Several years later she worked for Gottsche Rehabilitation Center as a Bookkeeper.
On May 14th, 1977, Joyce married her beloved John Cullen Fletcher who ran the Thermopolis Airport. Joyce worked in the office and kept the books for John’s airplane repair company. After John’s death, Joyce began work at the Dollar Store in Thermopolis and continued when it later changed hands to today’s Discover Thermopolis.
Joyce was widely known as a very loving and creative person. She loved to crochet and knit. Her family and friends were frequently the lucky recipients of her creativity. Joyce was very talented and curious and enjoyed learning new stiches, seeing what she could create with them to bring joy and comfort to those around her, both with gifts of her work as well as helping others to learn these skills.
Her family and community were central to Joyce, and she enjoyed her life in Thermopolis greatly. Joyce is survived by her brother Donald Pitt (wife Carolyn), nephew Ted Pitt (wife Mandie), nieces Dr. Kate Mielitz (husband Slade) and Jacqui Pitt, two great nephews, five great nieces, two great nephews-in-law, two great-great nephews, and one great-great niece, as well as two aunts in Worland – Alice Beckley and Pat Schweighart – and a multitude of cousins all over the place. She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore R. and Marie Susannah Pitt.
A service will be held at Mortimore Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 26th at 2:00 pm.
