Longtime resident, Kathryn K Bjorklund, 98, passed away May 16, 2022 at her home in Thermopolis after a life serving her Lord, her family and her community.
Born November 21, 1923 in Newcastle, Wyoming, she was one of seven children of Michael and Severa (Pzinski) Koski. Following high school Kay worked in Billings, Montana for Carter Oil Company.
On December 1, 1945 she married Guy E. Bjorklund in Billings, Montana. The couple moved to Thermopolis in 1955 where Kay was employed by First National Bank for 11 years. Later, Guy and Kay purchased the Coast to Coast store which they owned and later ran. They also owned hardware stores in both Douglas and Glenrock.
Guy and Kay enjoyed traveling when they retired and met many new friends when they traveled. Kay loved her family and community and spent all her life serving in many ways. She was a member of Federated Community Church, Kiwanis Club, bridge clubs, and the Hospital Auxiliary, to name a few. In 2017 she was named the AARP Volunteer of Wyoming at the age of 93. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren adored her and she very much enjoyed spending time with them.
The last 12 years of her life were spent at the Wyoming Pioneer Home, which she dearly loved. The staff and residents were a second family to her. Kay became the “Welcome Wagon” for all new residents.
Those who will cherish her memory include her children, Gary (Dorothy) Bjorklund of Wheatland, WY, Eric (Terrie) Bjorklund of Arlington, TX and Karen (Dennis) Sinclair of Thermopolis; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Guy, brother, Mike and sisters, Vi, Gen, Marty, Vickie and Dorothy.
A Celebration of Kay’s life will be held Tuesday, July 12, 11:00 AM at Federated Community Church in Thermopolis.
