Lois Ilean Merritt, 82, passed away suddenly April 8, 2018, at her residence in Thermopolis.Born April 16, 1935 in Custer, South Dakota , she was the youngest of eight children of Jack and Anna (Carson) Ainslie. As a child, the family moved to Wyoming. She met her husband- to-be,Clayton H. Merritt, in Gebo, WY. They were married in 1955 in Thermopolis. Living throughout Wyoming the couple returned to Thermopolis in the mid 70’s. Clayton died in 1991.
Lois worked at the A&W, then was a housekeeper and cook at the Wyoming Pioneer Home for many years. She was of the Baptist faith and devoted all her spare time to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and five sisters. Those surviving include her son, Clayton Jr. of Afton; daughter, Debra Brown of Draper, UT; grandchildren, Thomas Roberts, Jr., Justin Brown and Austin Merritt and six great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Monument Hill Cemetery.
