Mayva (May) Simone Marie McCumber, 96, passed away, January 18, 2021. May was born September 14, 1924, in Noumea, New Caledonia, South Pacific to Julien Flejo and Emilie Gadoffre Flejo.
After graduating from Catholic school, May worked at a department store. She met her future husband, Arthur Dare McCumber, when he was stationed in Noumea for the U.S. Army. They corresponded for a year before he asked her to marry. They were married February 22, 1947 in Rock Springs, WY. To this union three children were born, Dareen, Linda and Donald.
May was a housewife and worked on the family farm. She was an avid fisherman, hunter, and baker, and babysat many children. May was a member of the Saint Francis Catholic church.
She is survived by her three children: Dareen Bellamy, Linda (Gary) Brost, and Donald (Arlea) McCumber, 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, and husband.
Graveside services will take place at Monument Hill Cemetery, Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Randy Oswald, Celebrant.
