From 1962 to 1965 he was enlisted and served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne. Roger’s service to his country was a point of pride and honor throughout the entirety of his life.

On June 1st, 1968 he married Maureen TePaske in Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa and later attended Drake Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor. Roger was a member of Community Federated Church in Thermopolis.
