Ronald Dean Sassman passed away Friday, February 13th surrounded by his family at his home in Thermopolis, Wyoming. He was 77. Ron was born to Dale and Christine Sassman on May3, 1948 in Winner, South Dakota. Ron grew up in South Dakota mostly around the Murdo area. Moving around some during his childhood with his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
At the age of 17 he joined the Navy where he served in Vietnam and spent most of his time on a submarine. After leaving the Navy, he spent time with his older brother Bob, building houses all over the states. That’s how he met his current wife, Deborah Lee Sassman.
Deb cooked at a local restaurant when Ron came in for lunch from building a house. The rest was history and they were married in Lusk, Wyoming on October 26, 1976, They stayed around Lusk working for local ranchers and raising their family. Ron and Deb spent their lives on a ranch or two while they raised their two children, Niki and Jeremy. Ranching was Ron’s life and he never spent any time anywhere else. Ron semi-retired and lived in Thermopolis where he drove a truck up until September when he had a medical issue that caused him to fully retire.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Christine Sassman, both brothers, Dale and Bob Sassman, and one grandson Jaece Sassman.
He is survived by his wife, Deb Sassman, son Jeremy Sassman, daughter Niki Crow and her husband Tony, five grandchildren, Pacen Smith, Avry and Israel Pulido, and Freedom, Lance, and Gus Blackburn, and his three sisters, Twila Dibler, Cheryl Maki, and Bonita Kranig.
There will be no services at this time. Ron has been cremated and Mortimore Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
