Thomas Daniel Porter, 76, died Monday, July 4, 2022 at his residence in Thermopolis after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born October 23, 1945 in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of Walter B. and Mary Surian Porter. After his high school graduation he was drafted into the Marine Corp where he served and was wounded in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Commendation Medal.
In the early 70’s he married Debbie Savercool. Two children were born to this union. The couple later divorced.
Returning to Thermopolis after his discharge, Tom worked at Don’s IGA for 15 years as a Butcher, then Produce Manager. Following he served 22 years in the US Postal Service, then retired.
He was a member of the VFW. His passions were fishing, hunting, fish fry get-togethers and swimming in the Hot Spring pools. He was known as the “commander”, direct and to the point.
Those cherishing his memory are his daughter, Julie (Jason) Robertson of Thermopolis and son, Jason (Tami) Porter of Red Bluff, CA; brother, John Porter of Jackson, WY and sister, Betty Wall of Santa Rosa, CA; and two grandchildren, Daisy and Logan Robertson. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside memorial services will be on Saturday, July 30, 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery.
