Wayne Robert Hockaday, 82, passed away suddenly Monday, March 13, 2017 at Washakie Medical Center in Worland.
Born at home on October 12, 1934 in Alamosa, Colorado, he was one of five children of Fred and Wilhamein (Armstrong) Hockaday. After graduating from Montrose High School he attended one year at Adams State College in Colorado. He served in the US Army from1958 until 1962.
In the 1950’s he married Sonja Stewart. To this union was born four children. The couple later divorced.
The occupation he most enjoyed was as a “fishing hand” in the oil fields. In his younger years he enjoyed team roping and bronc riding at rodeos. A true outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. A determined man, he survived 5 days when lost last fall in the Black Mountain area.
On August 5, 1991, Wayne married “Tammy” Gerard in Delta, Colorado. With that marriage came 6 stepchildren. After an accident in 1993 Wayne was forced into retirement. The couple moved to Thermopolis from Delta in 1995.
Cherishing his memory are three children, Allen and William Hockaday and Gayla Stremming, all of Casper, W; five stepchildren, Judith, Catrina, Troy and Brock Parmar and Rodney Gerard; brothers, Dean, Vaughn and Gary Hockaday; sister, Janet Wilson; ten grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ryan; stepson, Robert Parmar; and former wife, Sonja.
The family will gather for a visitation, followed by cremation. No services are planned at this time.
