Thermopolis resident, Reverend John Clark Herrington, 78, went to meet his Lord Wednesday, April 03, 2013 while at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY after a period of declining health.

Born January 12, 1935 at the family homestead in Killeen, Texas, he was the son of John C and Alma F. (Smith) Herrington.  Following graduation from Killeen High School, he attended Baylor University in Waco, TX receiving a BA Degree.  He then earned his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX.  He pastored several churches in Texas.

On May 25, 1958, he married Patricia Louise “Triss” Flatt in Crossroads, New Mexico.  The couple came to Wyoming in 1965 where John served the 1st Southern Baptist Church in Rawlins, then 10 years at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Riverton.  He served as the Evangelism and Missions Director for the newly formed Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention in Casper.  After retiring, he was called to the Risen Son Southern Baptist Church in Thermopolis, WY as interim pastor, then as full-time pastor.

A gentle man, loved by all, he was known for his wonderful smile and sense of humor.  He enjoyed building and shooting black powder rifles and building and playing banjos.  Tall in stature, he appeared to walk in Jesus’ shoes.

Those who will carry on include his wife of 54 years, Triss; daughter, Lynda “Lyn” (Matthew) May of Casper;  grandson, John May;  nephews, Mikual and Jack, Jr Craft; and niece, Pamela Clayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack, Sr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 6, 2013, 10:00 AM at the Risen Son Southern Baptist Church in Thermopolis.  Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery.  A visitation will be held Friday evening, six to eight at Mortimore Funeral Home.
